As the dating times and protocols have changed, we’ve needed to follow suit! It seems that rather than sitting next to someone at a bar, the new custom is sliding into DMs. Whether you’re using dating apps like Tinder or Bumble and actively searching for a connection, or you’re simply riding a 653 day streak on Snapchat, the dating game is digital and it’s time we get used to it!
Today’s blog is all about social media’s role in dating, and how Instagram allows users to form and display their connections with other users. We’ve gotten SO used to seeing it all over our feeds, right? The classic kissing pics, the holding hand pics, and the tagging of your S.O. in bios…! Well today, we’re sharing some updated ways in which social and dating collide.
Instagram “Who is more___?” Filter
This couple-oriented filter has been all over Instagram stories! When applied to your story you and your S.O. read the prompt and tilt your head to “vote” for the person it best suits in the relationship. When you both tilt in the same direction you get a star, if not, you lose a star! After five prompts, you’re scored – displaying couples’ knowledge of each other. This is just ONE of many Instagram filters that are helping to tie the dating and digital world together!
Instagram Messaging Features
Ever wonder who to put in your “primary” DMs and who to put in “general”? We’re not insisting that IG made this feature to aid user’s dating efforts, BUT it sure makes it easier! We’re also not telling you who to prioritize in these categories but it’s pretty nice that you can separate business and relationships, right? Along with these categories, Instagram’s messaging allows for video chat! Who knew?! And if you’re one to leave S.O.s on “read”… IG allows you to “unread” messages without notifying the sender! Current dating apps don’t offer these features, so we think it’s safe to assume Instagram is helping the dating game. Or hindering it? Our guess is it can go both ways! LOL
Instagram’s Close Friends
Instagram makes it incredibly easy for you to sort out those most important to you. The feature “Close Friends” allows you to handpick your closest peeps, and only those people get to see stories that you publish using the “Close Friends” feature. Again, we’re not insinuating that the only purpose for “Close Friends” is to share private stories with S.O.s but clearly IG is making an effort to get you closer to other users.
We encourage you to use social for all that it has to offer and take advantage of these features! Who knew Instagram could be the new dating app! As you take advantage of these features, keep in mind that you are your brand and we’ve been working to build that. Social media is used for all kinds of networking and dating!
We’re wishing you the best of luck in all of your social endeavors, girl! Have some questions about the “digital world” and marketing yourself as a whole?! Email us at email@example.com for more help.
